A HomeSense shopping trip…

Last month I was lucky enough to be chosen as the monthly winner of the HomeEtc Link-up, hosted by Caro and Jess. The prize was a £20 voucher for HomeSense. Last weekend, armed with my voucher, I headed over to their Cambridge store.

HomeSense offers a huge variety of branded homewares at up to 60% of their original cost. You never really know what you’re going to spot – which is part of the fun!  Their stores are a treasure trove of unusual, quirky items and I could have spent hours there. I was on the lookout for cushions for our kitchen chairs and things to brighten up our garden this summer. The main focus downstairs was a beautiful array of outdoor things – from garden furniture, cushions and throws to sweet little bird houses and picnic rugs.

I quickly found some tie-on stripy seat cushions which were perfect for our kitchen and fabulously priced at £14.99 for two. They are lovely and squishy and will certainly stop my children moaning about sitting on our hard kitchen chairs! I’ve been looking for weeks for the right cushions, and finally I’ve found them.

Part of the excitement at shopping in HomeSense is that little thrill you get when you find something really amazing. My lucky find this time was a set of Jane Foster tumblers at a brilliant price. I’d bought two of these beautiful glasses while on holiday earlier this year, but couldn’t afford to buy more. They’re so nice and we always fight over who gets to use them. At £1.99 each I snapped up four more, so we don’t have to argue any more!

I also bought lots of other little bits and bobs, which have been squirreled away in my present drawer. If you’re looking for end of term teacher gifts, there is a fantastic selection of beautiful soaps (the fancy French and Italian kind) and lots of lovely mugs. We also picked up a new box of Champagne flutes – fantastic quality at £7.99 for 4.

I was also really impressed with the furniture on offer. We’re on the lookout for some smaller chairs and sofas for our playroom and I really fell in love with a few pieces – particularly this armchair and footstool for £299.99.

There was also a really tempting selection of little miniature footstools. This one, for £24.99, is particularly adorable.

Finally, we couldn’t resist leaving without buying something fun for the boys. There were lots of outdoor games, and a little croquet set came home with us too!

I’m so jealous of all these Home Sense shoppers, I really need to figure out where my nearest one is as I’ve never been. Well done on all your lovely finds and recommendations, that little foot stool is so cute! X #HomeEtc

I once was a bit whizzy at maths but these days it’s usually a count-on-my-fingers effort from me… and yet, I’m pretty sure that all added up to more than your £20 voucher! You thoroughly deserved to win it though and I can see why you bought more. I wish I had a store near me! (Though not that near – large retail units and National Parks don’t really go together!)

Yes, I was a bit naughty and spent considerably more than my voucher! Slight intake of breath at the checkout. On balance, I’d probably rather have the national park than an industrial estate…. x
